- Ease of Use
The Spider Bot Robotic Platform is an eight-legged walker which comes with everything you will need to build and program your own. The robot is moved with the assistance of two high torque metal geared electric motors. All legs are controlled with the WeMos Motor Shield and D1 Mini which give you the ability to program the speed and direction of the robot with just the two drive motors - operating much like a tank.
The speed of the robot spider is pretty quick for a walker as you can see from the video below. Modifying the power supply can also gain you extra speed with this model. I rated it 6.5/10.
The turning ability of the spider is tough to beat. It can fully turn around where it stands, because of this I rated it at 9.5/10.
The spider bot can handle inclines quite well with little to no slide back until reaching steeper grades. So, I went with 9/10 on climbing ability.
The whole purpose of our platforms is to allow you to improve upon them with your own wants and needs. This is why we include things you will need for other options you may need moving forward such as the distance sensor holder. Hopefully, it will become your best tool in bringing your own ideas and creations into existence. Definitely 10/10 to me.
Operating the robot indoors is recommended. The spider can handle any type of indoor from terrain from deep carpet to tile. Although, deep carpet may catch the legs a little every so often, so indoor operation is rated at 8/10.
Our first set of robots, which include the Mantis are built more for indoor usage so outdoor terrain like deep grass or gravel will not work well with them. I have been thinking about scaling up and creating outdoor versions but this may be sometime in the future.
Ease of UseThe spiderobot is fun to operate and easy to use but does come with a few smaller pieces for assembly that can be tricky. Because of this I gave ease of use an 8/10.
